The new Elite Champion is me, Nelson! I earned my ELT-CH Title on Sunday up in Cross Lake, MN at the Cuyuna Scout Camp. It’s the second highest title in Nose Work and one that is not easy to get. Of course, I’m the second GBGV to earn the title because Olivia does everything before I do. The only problem is that the ribbon is big and long and I am short but I don’t really mind.
This is the long road to the camp. They were not kidding when they told us it was two and a half miles off the main road and takes about ten minutes to drive to the actual camp. Thankfully it was not raining and all muddy!
As always in Elite, we had four searches to complete. Walking to and from the search areas was fun in the leaves. With all the wind, most of the leaves are already on the ground. The weather was cool and nice but my tongue still felt the need to hang out of my mouth.
My best search of the day was the beach search. We had five minutes to find an unknown number of hides. In the end, I found them all and placed sixth out of all the dogs. It was fun sniffing all the things in the search area. Mom struggled to figure out what was in and out of bounds with all the flags and stuff but we did well and didn’t go too far out of bounds.
The Road To Nelsons ELT-CH
My ELT1 Title was earned on October 13th, 2024, also at a camp in MN.
March 22nd, 2025, I earned my ELT2 Title at a school in Salem, WI. My ribbon even matches the school colors!
Finally, my ELT3 came in June at a school close to where we live.
ELT-CH means a total of one thousand points. Each trial has a maximum of one hundred. Olivia earned her title in twelve trials over ten months. I earned mine in thirteen trials over fourteen months. I also earned my title at three years and nine months old, Olivia was three years and eleven months old, so I did beat her in that part of the record books. A few other interesting stats, I competed in Elite in five different states – MN, WI, IA, OK, MD. My end score was 1030.17 points.
I’m excited to compete in the next level, Summit, and also ELT-P. Mom already entered me and Olivia in an ELT-P Trial in November, so I better keep on training! This is such a fun game and I know I will enjoy it for many years to come.
