The wild Seattle raccoon has become an unlikely celebrity after a passerby shared a video of him casually making his way across a patch of grass and up a nearby staircase. Kiana Hall wasn’t searching for wildlife when she and her husband headed out for a walk. While passing a parked car, she noticed something moving underneath it and initially assumed it was a neighborhood cat. The little animal’s unusual shape left her momentarily puzzled until it turned around and revealed the unmistakable black mask of a raccoon.
Laughing in disbelief, Hall filmed the tiny visitor as he carefully waddled across the lawn. She later posted the video online with the simple caption, “Praise Jimothy!!” never imagining that millions of viewers would soon be asking exactly the same question she did while recording: “What am I looking at?”

Every internet legend needs a memorable name, and according to Hall, there wasn’t much debate about this one. The moment she looked at the little raccoon, “Jimothy” simply felt right.
She later joked that she couldn’t really explain her reasoning any further. Sometimes an animal just looks like the name it was meant to have, and the internet wholeheartedly agreed. Before long, Jimothy’s fan club was creating memes, artwork, and affectionate comments celebrating Seattle’s newest four-legged celebrity.
Seattle Residents Had Been Rooting for Him All Along
While the rest of the world had only recently met Jimothy, some neighbors had been quietly watching him grow up for months. Seattle resident Ben Trammell later shared videos of Jimothy as a youngster, explaining that the raccoon family had lived in nearby cedar trees and regularly crossed through the neighborhood during their nightly adventures.
Because Jimothy was noticeably smaller and clumsier than his siblings, Trammell admitted he often worried whether the little raccoon would make it on his own. Instead, he watched Jimothy’s patient mother carefully guide him, keep him from falling, and occasionally carry him when the terrain became too challenging. Those early moments have only made fans appreciate his remarkable journey even more.

The admiration even reached Seattle City Hall, where officials announced plans to recognize “Jimothy Summer.” It’s a remarkable honor for a wild raccoon who has never done anything more extraordinary than confidently wander through his neighborhood looking exactly like himself.

Veterinary experts believe Jimothy’s shortened neck is likely the result of a congenital spinal deformity. Even so, they say the fact that he has reached adulthood in the wild is an encouraging sign that he has adapted exceptionally well despite his unique anatomy.
Experts continue to remind fans that Jimothy is still a wild animal and should be admired from a respectful distance. Judging by his confident strolls through Seattle, though, the little raccoon seems perfectly content living life on his own terms while unknowingly brightening millions of days around the world.
